When I’m out, I usually have my music playing and stare blankly ahead, or I get caught up in my phone doing various things. As an introvert, I don’t necessarily find it difficult to greet others, but more with stuck inside a comfort zone that doesn’t require constant engagement with others. Most the times, I just look ahead and ignore everything else.
However, one day, on my way towards Metrotown mall, I saw a homeless man on the street with his dog asking for money to get food. I tend to not carry cash on me, but it was evident they were struggling, so I went to Starbucks and got something nutritious the both could both share. He thanked me, and I went on my way.
Both my online and real life interactions are very reserved. I tend not to extend the first exchange because I prefer to keep to myself and observe what others are doing. It did feel nice to not just help a person in need, but his companion as well.
